Abstract
At the end of the 20C, the earth had hard times with natural and manmade disasters. Disaster makes critical situation and threats physical and mental health, in which victims and rescuers should struggle for survival.
Especially, the first responders in critical situation such as firemen. EMTs, doctors, nurses, relief workers, are apt to be stressful. They needed to debrief their critical incident stress in time, in appropriate method to prevent proceeding to traumatic stress or PTSD.
As one of proper method of stress management for the first responder, we adopted Mitchell and Everly's CISM (Critical Incident Stress Management), from which we developed a web-based CISM course for anyone to contact easily to this new concept. Prior to start, we had trained ourselves knowledgably and technologically in and out of the country.
The course was developed by 5 steps such as contents analysis, data collection and factor analysis, curriculum & contents development, writing storyboard, frame design, and demonstration on web. The Course contents were consisted of the comparison of general stress and traumatic stress, individual critical stress management, demobilization, defusion, and debriefing. Considering learner's interest, frames were designed with animation, pop-up window, video script. After testing operation, the course was enrolled to World Wid Web as www.cism.redcross.ac.kr, and Yahoo Korea.
This project has a meaning of no limitation of time and place to learn a new knowledge, CISM. To make the best use of this knowledge is directly related to improve the first responder's welfare, which is to be considered in political measures.
